The Mulhacen can be ascended in a single day from Capileira or from Trevélez (surpassing both a slope greater than 2000 meters high), for which it needs a very high physical condition because the day can exceed 15 hours. In order to make it accessible to almost everyone, Looking South planned the ascension spending a night in Poqueira Mountain Refuge, where we enjoy wonderful addition to their services. The ascent of Mulhacen is not only up to the roof of the Iberian Peninsula. Our route walks the National Park of Sierra Nevada, through ancient trails and roads, we will have the opportunity to meet not only the great variety of natural features of the Sierra Nevada and its counties, but also its rich history, its landscape and the singular characteristics of their villages.

DESCRIPTION OF ITINERARY:

Day 1. Capileira - Hoya del Portillo (2150 m) - Puerto Molina - Poqueira Refuge (2500 m):

Meeting in Granada or Capileira and transfer to the Recreation Area Hoya del Portillo, and from there begin the walking route to the Refuge Poqueira. Where you will spend the night with full board.

Day 2. Poqueira Refuge (2500 m) - River Valley Mulhacen - Bivouac of the Caldera (3100 m) - Mulhacen (3482 m) - Refugio Poqueira - Capileira:

We will make the ascent of the highest peak in the peninsula (Mulhacen) from the refuge Poqueira by the most sheltered from possible winds, the right bank of the river valley Mulhacen. After making Summit, descend back to the Refuge and continue to the Hoya del Portillo. Transfer by car to Granada. End of activity and farewell.

Elevation: 958 m to the top. · Distance: 4.2 km to the top.

 

Requirements: Mountain experience and a good physical. Although the difficulty of the journey is low, the march of the second day takes an average of 8-10 hours.

Equipment: Minimum Backpack 30L, hiking shoes, sports apparel, breathable shirt (not cotton), lining, trekking pants, jacket goretex type, buff, warm clothes (pen), 1 extra set of clothes, sun hat, sunglasses Sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottle, food bars type attack.
